Frequently asked questions

There's no official figure. "Walking distance" is a sales phrase. Ask for metres to the mosque and the hotel's full name, then check the walking route on a map. As a rough guide, under 500 m in a straight line suits most people for every prayer. Beyond about 2 km, most pilgrims need transport.

They're probably measuring different things. Maps and our finder show a straight line. Some agents quote the walking route to the nearest gate, which is longer. Others quote a straight line to a different point. Ask your agent where they measured from, then open the map pin and ask for walking directions.

The straight line from the hotel's map position to the nearest edge of the mosque: Masjid al-Haram in Makkah, Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah. We use OpenStreetMap data. It's good for comparing hotels against each other, but the walk will always be longer.

No. Stars describe the hotel, not where it is. Some highly graded hotels sit right by the mosque, and others are kilometres away with a bus. The stars in our finder are unofficial OpenStreetMap labels. The official grade is the classification on the Saudi Ministry of Tourism register.

Ask for the full hotel name with its branch or district, in writing, for both cities. One brand can run a hotel beside the Haram and another several kilometres away. Then search the full name in our finder, open the map pin, and look the hotel up on the Ministry of Tourism register.

Not automatically. Some hotels or packages include transport to the mosque and many don't. Timings and drop-off points vary too. Ask whoever sells you the package whether transport is included, how often it runs, and where it stops, and get the answer in writing before you pay.

No. The finder shows the hotel name, city, unofficial stars, straight-line distance, a map pin and, where we've checked, the licence status. It shows no prices, ratings or availability. Rooms and rates are confirmed at booking. To talk about a hotel, ask us on WhatsApp 0308 8444494.

No. It only means we haven't looked that hotel up on the Saudi Ministry of Tourism register yet. You can check any hotel yourself for free. Our guide on how to check if your Umrah hotel is licensed shows the steps, including what to try if the English name doesn't come up.
